Context
I play Fantasy Premier League in a private H2H league, but the official FPL interface doesn't provide the live H2H experience I wanted.
I wanted one place where I could instantly see live H2H scores, standings, player ownership, captains, transfers, and other league data in a UI designed specifically for our league.
So I built my own.
Problem
The official FPL interface provides the underlying game data but does not offer the live H2H experience our private league needed.
Live scores, standings, ownership, captaincy, transfers and other useful league information had to be checked across different views and were not presented together in real time.
The goal was to bring this data into one dashboard and keep it updated automatically throughout each Gameweek.
Solution
I built an automated data pipeline in n8n that collects and processes data from the FPL API and generates JSON data for a custom mobile-first web dashboard.
The automation handles:
- Live H2H scores and standings
- Player points, autosubs and captain changes
- League ownership and captaincy
- Transfer activity
- Manager comparison
- Automatic matchday updates
- AI-generated Gameweek Reviews based on actual league data
Process
- Retrieve league data: n8n workflows request the FPL API data needed for the private H2H league, including player points, squads, captaincy and transfers.
- Transform and structure: JavaScript and n8n process the API responses into JSON for live H2H scores, standings, ownership, autosubs, captain changes and manager comparisons.
- Present the dashboard: The mobile-first HTML, CSS and JavaScript dashboard presents the generated data in league views for scores, standings, players, transfers and comparisons.
- Update throughout the Gameweek: Automated matchday updates refresh league information throughout each Gameweek. The dashboard and pipeline were tested during live Gameweeks.
- Generate the review: OpenAI / Anthropic models use actual league data to generate Gameweek reviews alongside the dashboard.

Results
